An Camus Mòr – update on the submission of the implementation Master plan in May 2014
The implementation Master plan for the development at An CamusMòr submitted to the planning authorities in late May has been withdrawn by the landowner who intends to resubmit it in a few months. The application is for up to 1500 residential units with associated business and community facilities. The application was submitted in response to conditions set by the Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA) when they gave approval of planning permission in principle for the development in March 2014.

Thanks to many of the Cairngorm Campaign members who formally responded to the application as every letter of objection counts. The Cairngorms Campaign employed Ian Cowan of Highland Environmental Law and submitted two letters of objection. These can be seen here. Ian also spoke on our behalf with the CNPA planners to try to understand the process for the application. We found it hard to comprehend how it could “partially” address planning conditions and this was compounded by the confusing layout of the documents on the CNPA website. Ian worked tirelessly on our response submitting the second letter just minutes before midnight on the deadline date.
The Cairngorms Campaign continues to oppose housing developments in the National Park that are primarily providing second homes, motivated by profit for the landowners and developers. We want to see sustainable, quality, affordable housing (i.e. for rent in perpetuity) for people living and working locally.
